The National Library of Costa Rica and the Embassy of the Netherlands Embassy in Costa Rica. Invites the general public to the exhibition”World Press 2019 Stories that Matter”

The exhibition shows 144 photographs. And it opens to the public the 6th of June at 5:00pm in the Library. The exhibition presents the winner photo of 2019 and and the story of the year 2019. The winners were selected by an independent jury. That reviewed more than 78.801 photos by 4.738 photographers of 129 countries.

The exhibition, corresponds to the 62th edition of the contest. Among the photos that could be seen are: The winner of 2019 “Kid Crying at the border” by John Moore. United States for Getty Images. In the photo the Yanela Sánchez can be seen crying. While her mother was detain by ICE police in McAllen Texas.

Laura Rodríguez, director of the National Library. said “It is the first occasion than this exhibition is shown in the country. The public might find impactful photos. That made us reflect upon our current situations. As immigration, human and minority rights among others.”

World Press Photo was fund in 1995. It is a non profit organization located in Amsterdam. Responsible for organizing the most prestigious journalist photograph contest. This exposition is watch by thousands of people around the world. In 100 cities of 40 different countries. And this is the first time the exhibition will be shown in Costa Rica. Thanks to the efforts of the Embassy of The Netherlands.

During the inauguration

The exhibition World Press 2019: Stories that matter. Could be visited from the 6th to the 26th of Junes. From Monday to Friday. From 8:00 am and until 6:00pm for free.

This Friday 7th of June at 5:00pm there will be a round table around the photo Journalism. With Ezequiel Becerra, Mayela López, Marco Monge, Jeffry Arguedas, y con José Luis Mora as moderator

Conversatorio. El viernes 7 de junio, a las 5 p.m., en la Biblioteca Nacional, se realizará el conversatorio sobre fotoperiodismo, con los fotógrafos Ezequiel Becerra, Mayela López, Marco Monge, Jeffry Arguedas, y con José Luis Mora como moderador.
