The director-general of the United Nations agency also announced that the WHO mission in China completed preparatory work for its investigation into the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The WHO team that traveled to China completed its mission to lay the foundation for joint efforts to identify the origins of the virus,” said the head of the organization, explaining that “epidemiological studies will begin in Wuhan to identify the potential source. of infection of the first cases ”.

The coronavirus has spread to more than 18 million people worldwide and continues to punish Latin America and the Caribbean, which have exceeded 200,000 deaths caused by the pandemic.

The World Health Organization (WHO) warned Monday that there may never be a “solution” against the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the ongoing race to obtain a vaccine.

“There is no solution and perhaps never will be,” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at an online press conference.

“We all hope to have a number of effective vaccines that can prevent people from getting it,” but halting the outbreaks in the meantime depends on respect for public health measures.
