From this Friday, December 18, the Museum of Costa Rican Art (MAC) invites the public to visit its new exhibition “Traspasando el threshold”, by the artist Disifredo Garita (1942-1997).
Visitors will have the opportunity to discover, in this exhibition, the value that the figure of Disifredo Garita contributed to the Costa Rican aesthetic of 20th century art, through paintings between the natural and the imaginary, loaded with fantasy and color.
The exhibition “Trespasando el threshold” is presented as a chronological journey through the years of Garita’s training and career, then moving on to various thematic axes such as “Alchemy and the fantastic world”, “Natural world” and “The feminine”. Each of the sections addresses the themes, allegories and symbolisms contained in the works of Garita, one of the most enigmatic artists in the history of national art, according to the MAC.
Disifredo Garita was born in Costa Rica in 1942 and since childhood he was attracted to painting. He completed his university training at the UCR where he studied pedagogy. Later he moved to Mexico where he studied art restoration and conservation. Years later, he decided to dedicate himself entirely to painting, working with techniques such as watercolor, drawing and oil. He also cultivated the literary arts, in particular poetry.
To visit the exhibition, the public must reserve their space at tel .: 4060-2315, from Wednesday to Sunday, from 8 a.m. at 4 p.m. The MAC has health and safety protocols for the prevention of COVID-19, it is for this reason that each visitor who enters the museum must comply with the disinfection guidelines and abide by the instructions of the officials when making tours of the rooms.
