The Public Transport Council (CTP) established restrictions and exceptions for regular and international route bus service during Easter due to the national emergency due to Covid-19.
The health restriction announced by the Government indicates that special transport of essential productive activities is exempt from the measure, which means that bus services will be maintained to transport workers from hospitals, clinics, factories, food and medicine distribution, among others. .
According to the executive director of the CTP, Manuel Vega Villalobos, public transport must contribute to the containment of the Covid-19 virus, maintaining and applying the guidelines issued by the Government.
“Although it is true, we must heed the government’s directives not to go out into the streets, there is a population that must go to work during these days. It is our obligation to maintain public transport services in those cases of users who must attend essential work and productive activities, so that each operator knows the mobility of the population that moves and it is their responsibility to adapt their services without protecting the population that requires attend to the aforementioned activities, without disregarding the guidelines that have been established by the health authorities for the entire country, “said Vega.
The CTP clarifies to citizens that each bus company must adapt its transport services during Easter without checking out the working users.
That is why in the Ordinary Session 26-2020 of the CTP Board of Directors held this Thursday, the following was agreed:
- INTERNATIONAL AUTHORIZED ROUTES:
Starting on Saturday, April 4, 2020 and until Tuesday, April 7, 2020, on international routes that are authorized, only two departure and entry services will be allowed per day (that is, two daily races), evaluating the times travel in order to be able to carry out the border formalities of passage of the users of the service, either may make two services from Costa Rica to the authorized country and two return. The above, both for national and authorized foreign operators.
Services from Wednesday, April 8, 2020 to Sunday, April 12, 2020, will be suspended. Each operator will be responsible for coordinating that immigration procedures can be carried out.
- REGULAR INTERURBAN ROUTES LONG WHOSE TRAVELED ARE EQUAL TO OR GREATER THAN 75 KILOMETERS:
From Saturday, April 4, 2020 to Tuesday, April 7, 2020, they may perform two services in the morning and two services in the afternoon (that is, two daily races), reaching the term late until seven at night, which are two round-trip services in accordance with authorized terminal points, with a total of four trips a day between round-trip. Services from Wednesday, April 8, 2020 to Sunday, April 12, 2020, will be suspended.
If there are essential labor and productive activities from Wednesday, April 8 to Sunday, April 12, 2020, the operator is authorized to provide at least two services, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
- REGULAR ROUTES WITH TRAVELS LESS THAN 75 KILOMETERS:
From Saturday, April 4, 2020 to Tuesday, April 7, 2020, they must maintain a minimum operation of up to twenty percent (20%) of the service on the authorized route (s). From Wednesday April 8 to Sunday April 12, 2020, if there are essential labor and productive activities in operation, they will be able to maintain a maximum operation of up to twenty percent 20% of the service; the operator being able to manage the frequency of services and make the necessary operational adjustments to comply with the mentioned percentages.
Each operator is responsible for providing services to users who must cover essential work and productive activities, because they know the mobilization of the population within the authorized route or routes, with a maximum of up to twenty percent ( 20%) will be on those routes where its area of influence involves essential services, in such a way that the operator may enable the services it deems necessary in order to guarantee the transfer of workers, which it must notify the CTP.
The executive director of the CTP reiterated the obligation of the operators to publicize the schedules and operating schemes so that users can get to know them as soon as possible, by the available means, namely, the companies’ websites, terminals, on the buses themselves, flyers , social networks, among others. The taxi and Seetaxi service will operate without any restriction throughout Easter.
