“We have recommended that all national football activities be suspended,” declared Health Minister Daniel Salas, at the conclusion of a meeting this morning with representatives of the Costa Rican Football Federation (Fedef Fútbol) and the Union of Football Clubs of the First Division (UNAFUT).
The determination was made after the sports leadership expressed its concerns about the impossibility of sports venues to fully comply with all the prevention and self-care measures that have been indicated in previous days.
“Therefore, in order to fully comply with the preventive measures to avoid COVID-19 infections, we have recommended the suspension of national football activities,” said Salas.
For his part, the president of Fedef Fútbol, Rodolfo Villalobos, thanked the Minister of Health, Daniel Salas, and the Minister of Sport, Hernán Solano Venegas, for having heeded the call to be able to address this issue again today at the Presidential House.
“In football we are thinking of the players, referees, the coaching staff and the same press that attends. We consider that the suspension was necessary as we did see yesterday at the press conference. For now, it deprives the health not only of the players but of all their relatives, “added Villalobos.
«We analyzed new issues that led to the consideration of the Minister of Health in coordination with the Minister of Sport to recommend the suspension of the Liga Promerica national championship indefinitely. We are really very satisfied, it is important to make known what the presidents of clubs and the governing council expected so that they can now proceed to suspend the championship, “said Julián Solano, president of the Union of Football Clubs of the Primera Division (UNAFUT).
Finally, the Sports Minister highlighted “the spirit of joint work, as a team and the unity of all to face the coronavirus in the best way,” reiterating the call to pay a lot of attention to the indications that the Health authorities are making. . Let’s follow the recommendations to the letter, “he said.
