The Ministry of Health, the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) and the Institute on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (IAFA) have enabled a BOT or Virtual Assistant through Facebook / Messenger to support citizens who want to quit tobacco.

Those people who are interested in accessing the platform, must enter the Facebook “Stop Smoking and Vaping”, there they will be able to interact with the BOT that will allow them to program a date in which they intend to quit tobacco. The platform accompanies them for 17 days before the proposed date with tools and activities that will help the body and mind prepare for change. After the date you decided to quit or vape, the BOT will accompany you for another 90 days to motivate you.

Studies from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) indicate that smoking makes people more susceptible to serious complications from COVID-19, and included smokers among the groups. potentially more vulnerable to COVID-19. In fact, four of the people hospitalized today in our country for COVID-19, share smoking as a risk factor

The project also has a site: where you can find support tools for this process. Both the BOT and the site are accessible on the main website of the Ministry of Health
