Today we are starting a meet the artist blog post treat. So our readers and assistants to the 8th Annual Blues Fest Sponsor by Paradise Products Costa Rica get to know some of the faces. And bands that are going to share the stage. In Playa Potrero Guanacaste.
And so to start we decided to talk about a real living legend. Donnie Walsh cofounder of the legendary Canadian Band Downchild. Donnie and his brother Richard “Hock” Walsh are often regard as responsable for lifting the monumental weight of been the pioneers of the Canadian Blues scene.
Donnie a legendary guitar and harmonica player together with his brother Hock served as an inspirtation for the film “The Blues Brothers”
The Downchild Blues Band was formed in Toronto in 1969 and continues to perform today.And they are still remember by hits such as Straight Up,
I’ve Got Everything I Need (Almost)”Shot Gun Blues, Flip, Flop and Fly. Among others.
Heavily influenced by Jimmy Read, and other legends as Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, Muddy Waters, B.B. King, and Albert King. Donnie Walsh began a carrer as that would later earn him the status of legend. Recording the first album of the band as a bootleg. Regarded also as perhaps the first inde record of Canada in 1971.
A fishing aficionado Donnie spend his time playing in festivals all year around and often avoiding the crowds in his fishing boat. Perhaps this fishing activities was what ended up bringing him to Costa Rica. And because music is inescapable. Donnie join the band “The leatherbacks.”Band founded in 1997 in Tamarindo Costa Rica by the guitarist Nick D’Amico. Where Donnie and other amazing muscians have found a musical home when visiting the land of the Pura Vida.
