INEC survey launches 15% unemployment.

This moving quarter includes the months of February, March and April 2020; the latter affected by the initiation of confinement and movement restriction measures in order to contain the COVID-19 pandemic

Work force. The population in the national workforce was 2.42 million people, without interannual variation with respect to the February, March and April 2019 quarter, which registered 2.46 million people.

Working population.

The employed population was estimated at 2.04 million people, which meant a statistically significant decrease of 138 thousand people with respect to the same period of the previous year.
Unemployed population. The unemployed population was 379 thousand people, 102 thousand more people compared to the same moving quarter of the previous year.

Net participation rate. The net participation rate was 60.8%, which meant a decrease of 1.7 percentage points (p.p.) compared to the moving quarter of the previous year (62.5%). By sex, the labor participation of men was 72.6% and that of women was
48.8%. Occupancy rate.

The percentage of employed persons with respect to the population aged 15 years and over was
51.2%, which represents a significant decrease of 4.2 p.p., compared to the same period of the previous year. The occupation rate for men was 63.8% and for women it was 38.7%.
Unemployment rate.

The national unemployment rate was 15.7%, compared to the same
quarter of the previous year, increased statistically by 4.4 p.p. Women have a higher unemployment rate than men (20.8% and 12.2% respectively).
