Hospital San Juan de Dios closes surgery rooms after 31 cases of sick officials with Covid.

The San Juan de Dios hospital (HSJD) closed the operating rooms after detecting 31 positive officials and 36 contacts who are currently in isolation, announced the medical manager, doctor Mario Ruiz Cubillo.

The measure was applied from this Sunday, July 19, to clean and disinfect operating rooms and safeguard the safety of users and other unexposed hospital officials.

At the moment HSJD will only maintain two highly qualified emergency operating rooms that cannot be relocated.

Ruiz Cubillo explained that the Calderón Guardia and México hospitals will support in the care of emergencies in the area of ​​ascription of San Juan de Dios.


Last Wednesday, July 15, the HSJD Operations Room Nursing Headquarters reported the situation of positive officials by COVID-19, so immediately the Epidemiology and Infection Prevention and Control Unit and the Occupational Health Unit began the approach and investigation of cases and contacts.

Among the actions, it was decided to screen all the operating room officials, which resulted in Friday, July 17, the cut in the afternoon, of 12 positive officials and 12 close contacts who were isolated at their home.

For this Saturday 18, in the morning, another 7 positive officials had been identified and at night the result of the screening of asymptomatic officials was known, so 12 more officials were added to the list of positives.

As of this Sunday, there are 31 positive cases (20%) of permanent operating room staff and 36 contact officials.

There are 172 permanent staff in the Operations room: general infirmary (102), armory (15), anesthesia (27), anesthesia residents (17) and toilet (11).

The investigation is ongoing and another group of officials needs to be screened between this Sunday, the rest of the permanent staff will be screened and the group of surgeons will be screened on Monday, so more cases could be identified, reported Dr. Mario Sibaja, deputy director of the HSJD.
