The Heredia Symphony Orchestra (OSH) is pleased to present the Season OSH2020, which will celebrate the symphonic repertoire of the 20th century.
During the 2020 season, the OSH will perform its music – for the second consecutive year – in the most important room in the country: the National Theater of Costa Rica; under the tutelage of the renowned Costa Rican teacher: Eddie Mora.
“The repertoire of the OSH2020 was chosen this time thinking of promoting the orchestra as an ensemble, covering part of the main works of the twentieth century, with the idea of strengthening the artistic muscle of our musicians,” said the head conductor of the Orchestra Heredia Symphony, Eddie Mora. The concerts will be held in the months of February, March, April, June, August and December, both in the National Theater and in the Immaculate Conception Parish of Heredia.
The selection of great works includes the Ninth Symphony of Shostakovich, the Classical Symphony of Prokofiev, the Symphony No. 1 of Mahler, La Mer de Debussy, Symphony No. 2 of Arvo Part and the Orchestra Concert of Bártok. In addition, it should be noted that Jazz will be one of the thematic axes that will converge in the repertoire of the Season, with works such as Jazz Suite by Shostakovich and Martinu, A Jazz. Symphony of Antheil, An American in Paris by Gershwin and Dances of West Side Story by Bernstein. In the month of March, the group will be directed by the invited director Eduardo García (Mexico).
“The artistic trajectory and musical knowledge of Eduardo García are the essential credentials to invite him to lead our orchestra. Maestro García is a communicator, and I am sure that we will all learn a lot from him, “Mora said. The Orchestra will also have the participation of eight active soloists from the artistic medium, of which six are nationals. Also, in the month of August, OSH will have the honor of making the world premiere of the play “Concerto for Accordion, Guitar and String Orchestra” by the famous Cuban composer Leo Brouwer.
The OSH2020 Season is the preamble to the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Heredia Symphony Orchestra in 2022, as well as the prelude to the patriotic Bicentennial. Currently, OSH has the support of the Ministry of Culture and Youth and the Municipality of Heredia, entities that incorporate it into its budget, thus allowing the development of artistic projects with composers, soloists and directors of recognized international experience, with the objective of spread contemporary concert music.
