Entry into service of the new bridge over the Virilla River on Route 32, between Tibás and Santo Domingo.

With the participation of the President of the Republic, Carlos Alvarado, the Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Rodolfo Méndez Mata, reported that this work was possible to carry out successfully, within the budgeted time and costs, with optimal results in quality, social management , environmental and minimal effects on traffic during the construction process.

The new structure was a constructive challenge, through the use of a specialized technique, known as “successive cantilevers”, taking into account the complicated topography of the Virilla River canyon and for which the strictest security measures were applied.

The President of the Republic, Carlos Alvarado Quesada, expressed his satisfaction with the work carried out. “In these two years, we have demonstrated with concrete facts what Costa Rica is capable of. Under the leadership of Minister Méndez Mata, the MOPT team and CONAVI, important road works have been completed that allow better movements and better traffic flow ”, the president highlighted.

He added that “I am grateful in these difficult times that we are living as a country due to the impact of the pandemic, the commitment of UNOPS as the manager of the project and the consortium in charge of construction. We are showing that when there is conviction in what is done, it is possible to carry out works of great magnitude ”.

The event also had the participation of two representatives of the community, the Executive Director of the National Highway Council (CONAVI), Mario Rodríguez; the Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Alejandro Rossi; the Chief Country Officer of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration in Costa Rica, Mauricio Chacón, and the Director of the Executive Unit, Carlos Jiménez.
