Decree signed allowing the CCSS to use private hospital beds

This Friday, September 11, the official newspaper La Gaceta published executive decree No. 42607-S that gives the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) the authority to use the internment beds and the resources associated with this service, whether in whole or in part, from private hospitals for the care of patients with COVID-19.

This decree published in scope n ° 241 to La Gaceta n ° 228 was signed by Carlos Alvarado, President of the Republic, and Daniel Salas, Minister of Health, and seeks to expand the coverage of medical care for people with COVID-19, as well as to protect the life and health of the population by expanding the hospitalization capacity of positive patients.

Under the regulatory framework, the health authorities will determine through a resolution the percentages, the gradualness and the progressivity with which the use of the hospital beds and the resources associated with the services for critical and / or medium-complexity patients in the establishments will be made. private health service.

On the 9th of this month, Minister Salas reported in a press conference about a meeting with the representatives of these private centers, grouped in the Costa Rican Chamber of Health, who had expressed their willingness to join the care of the pandemic.

For the Minister of Health this is a very important step but he stressed that “the battle is not won in the ICUs. The most important battle is that of prevention and we fight it in the communities, in the workplaces and in places of customer service ”.
