Covid-19 Specialty Care Center begins to receive patients.

The specialized center for the care of patients with COVID-19 (CEACO), of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), began its phase of patient care on Thursday, authorities of the institution confirmed.

With this step the center completes a vertiginous process that started two weeks ago with the total reconversion of the National Rehabilitation Center (CENARE) and which included physical conditioning, investment in medical equipment and the training of hundreds of officials who will attend the new hospital. anticovid.

The medical manager of the CCSS, doctor Mario Ruiz Cubillo, confirmed the admission of the first patient with COVID-19 to the unit while making a call to deprive respect for the privacy of this and any other patient who is referred to CEACO .

“The center was prepared to start this phase of care, it has professionals of the highest level and from now on they will focus on providing the best care for Costa Ricans who are admitted there,” said the manager.

The CCSS has 29 hospitals throughout the country and guidelines have been defined in the service network for the referral of patients when necessary to CEACO.

The anticovid hospital will be able to provide specialized care simultaneously to 88 patients with mild or moderate complications derived from COVID-19 and has about 1,350 workers, who work three shifts 24 hours a day.

The new center has high-end equipment that includes pulmonary ventilators, video laryngoscopes, portable X-rays, secretion aspirators, among others.

Emergency physicians, critical care specialists, respiratory therapists with experience in managing critically ill patients, nurses specializing in managing critically ill patients, laboratory personnel, pharmacy, microbiology, nutritionists, radiologists, infectious diseases, instrumentalist nurses for operating rooms. , surgeons, patient assistants, general service officials, professionals in medical records, among others are part of the human resource that nurtures this center.

Dr. Ruiz was emphatic that as a country we must insist on measures for the prevention and containment of COVID-19 contagion and made the call for people to stay home this Easter and avoid exposing themselves and others.
