EThis Monday, the Protecting Skills Plan was presented, a new scholarship program for online training promoted by the Government, which will benefit 50,000 Costa Ricans affected by labor due to the pandemic caused by Covid-19.
The program was exposed in a press conference by the President of the Republic, Carlos Alvarado; the ministers of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), Geannina Dinarte, and of Foreign Trade (COMEX), Dyalá Jiménez, the general director of CINDE, Jorge Sequeira and Jeff Maggioncalda, executive director (CEO) of Coursera.
The initiative is promoted in collaboration with this world’s leading online learning platform, and with the support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), which fosters opportunities for economic recovery in the region.
People benefited by the program must be unemployed and have applied to the Protect Bond. In this way, those who meet these two conditions may receive an invitation to choose the available courses. Once you receive this notification you must activate your scholarship by completing an online form.
The program offers the possibility of accessing hundreds of courses in Spanish and English at no cost, which will allow them to train for new jobs.
After thanking the Coursera company for trusting in the skills and abilities of the Costa Rican, President Alvarado commented that this plan is one of the efforts being carried out by the government to reactivate employment, since it will allow thousands of people to access courses facilitated by prestigious international universities from their homes.
He added that close to the 40 learning routes that were established “have been reviewed by different companies in the country, according to the profiles with the highest labor demand, which will allow the beneficiaries to improve their digital, strategic and technical skills to strengthen their profile. looking for a job ».

He added that “by accessing online courses and certifications from the world’s best universities, including many courses in Spanish, citizens will gain relevant skills to prepare for new careers.”
The project has a team that will provide support and consultation services to the beneficiaries. This has been possible thanks to the collaboration of the Hispano-American University, through its University Communal Work program.
