The Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) registers the application of 24 859 vaccines against covid-19 since this day began on December 24, this according to data from the institution updated at the close of this Thursday, January 14.

As explained by Leandra Abarca Gómez, coordinator of the Expanded Program of Immunizations (PAI) of the CCSS, this amount corresponds to 80.8% of the 30,770 doses that have so far been distributed in health areas and hospitals both in the Greater Metropolitan Area and in the periphery of our country.

“Vaccination is progressing at a very good pace, in accordance with what was planned and with the number of doses available in the country,” emphasized the official, who assured that the application registration of 100% of distributed doses is projected for this Friday.

According to data from the Caja, the integrated region for the provision of health services Central South (Cartago and the metropolitan region of San José) shows the highest number of doses applied (13,959), followed by the Central North region (Heredia and Alajuela: 7,754 ), the Central Pacific (1,154), the Huetar Norte (567), the Chorotega (1,111) and the Huetar Atlántica region (314).

As for health facilities, at the moment vaccination is being carried out in 55 health areas, hospitals and specialized centers, including establishments in regions outside the Greater Metropolitan Area. “This is a reflection of the efforts made by the Caja’s Logistics management teams in the preparation and transfer of supplies and biologicals and the micro-planning processes that each health area and hospital is carrying out,” said Dr. Abarca.

Currently, the establishments in which the highest number of doses have been applied are the Mexico (1,964 doses), the National Children’s Hospital (1,760 doses) and the San Juan de Dios (1,617 doses).

These vaccines correspond to the protection that is being carried out at this time to the workers of the CCSS (19,425 doses), the elderly in long-stay homes (2,716), workers in these homes (624) and workers in other first response institutions (2,094).

Dr. Vega de la O affirmed that the logistics process applied by the CCSS for the vaccination day against covid-19 is a continuous process (because each site that begins to receive vaccines will continue to receive it so that they can organize the implementation of vaccines in groups), progressive (because once a vaccination group is completed, the establishment will begin with the next one) and harmonious (since it seeks to reach as many regions as possible as we move forward, therefore, it will gradually expand , but extending to all regions as more doses arrive), as long as the vaccines continue to enter the country weekly and with the expected quantities.
