The National Lyric Company (CLN), in co-production with the Melico Salazar Popular Theater, will present in 2020 the opera “Un Baile de Mascaras”, by the Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi.
For this staging, the Musical Direction will be in charge of the Costa Rican teacher Ramiro A. Ramírez, while the Scenic Direction will be carried out by the Mexican José Medina.
“It is a pleasure for the National Music Center, an instance to which the National Lyric Company belongs, to present to the public one of the most acclaimed, beautiful, colorful and most recognized works of Giuseppe Verdi in the world, which, in addition, It has never been presented in our country. This production is of greater importance since the National Lyric Company celebrates 40 years of foundation, ”said Ana Victoria Carboni, artistic director of the CLN.
The cast of “A Dance of Masks” is made up of Venezuelans Aquiles Machado, such as Riccardo Conde de Warwik and Governor of Boston, and Ana Lucrecia García in the role of Amelia; Mexicans Ricardo López, baritone, in the role of Renato, and Belem Rodríguez, as the sorceress Ulrica. In addition, there will be the participation of Costa Ricans Alejandro Cardona (bass) in the role of Tom; Gabriel Morera (bass) as Sam; Luis Gabriel Quirós, (bass) as Silvano; Ono Mora (tenor) as the judge and the soprano Stephanie Toruño as Oscar, the page; In addition to the presentation of the National Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphonic Choir, the Children’s Choir, as well as guest musicians from the National Institute of Music and the National Dance Company will participate in the staging.
“Un Baile de Máscaras” will be presented to the public on July 24, 26, 28, 30 and 31, 2020, at the Melico Salazar Popular Theater. The production will release more details at the appropriate time.
Master classes. Taking advantage of the visit of the Venezuelan tenor, Aquiles Machado, a master class will be held on July 8, in co-production with the National Theater of Costa Rica. For this opportunity, six advanced Costa Rican singers or residents of the country will be chosen, who will have the opportunity to hear from Machado their recommendations. International Opera Day Concert. International Opera Day is celebrated on October 25, and in 2020 a concert will be held in co-production with the North American Costa Rican Cultural Center, which will include arias from renowned operas of the universal repertoire.
