The 105 health areas of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) distributed throughout the country this week intensified the placement of first doses of the covid-19 vaccine as a strategy to prevent vaccinated people from forgetting to attend their second appointment during the days of celebration of the Semana Mayor.
As explained by Dr. Eduardo Cambronero Hernández, director of the Health Services Network of the institution, the officials of the first level of care of the CCSS made an additional effort to apply all the vaccines assigned for this week between Monday and Wednesday, so that the second corresponding doses do not coincide with Good Thursday and Good Friday.
“As recommended by the manufacturer, the second dose of this vaccine should be applied 21 days after receiving the first dose to obtain the total percentage of immunization against covid-19, it is important that this period is met,” emphasized the doctor Cambronero.
For his part, Dr. Mario Ruiz Cubillo, medical manager of the CCSS, the manager expressed his satisfaction with the placement, at the end of this Thursday, of 241 724 doses of vaccines against covid-19 by institutional teams and highlighted the effort made by local levels.
“We are placing practically all the doses that come to us. We are only saving what corresponds to the second dose that must be saved to assure all the people who use the first dose that they have that second dose guaranteed 21 days later, ”said Dr. Ruiz.
The official also stressed that this “is a very strong logistics process where all health areas are doing their part. There are colleagues who stay after 4 in the afternoon calling people, typing information, trying to make the whole process as transparent and ethical as possible ”.
Both Dr. Cambronero and Dr. Ruiz required people with scheduled appointments to receive the second dose on Holy Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to attend health facilities on time. Please come to your appointments. Get vaccinated. The vaccine saves lives, ”emphasized Dr. Ruiz.
At this time, the CCSS vaccinators are immunizing people from the first and second vaccination groups. That is, people who are part of the institutions that are in the front line of care (20% of the doses) and people over 80 years of age (80% of the dose distribution).
Starting next week, as instructed by the National Vaccination and Epidemiology Commission, attached to the Ministry of Health, the staff will reinforce the placement of the second doses of those people who received their first vaccination in the last 21 days.
The Fund maintains the vaccination strategy in all the establishments of its network of health services distributed throughout the country.
