As a result of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, where great mobility of people is expected, the National Commission for Risk Prevention and Attention to Emergencies (CNE) calls on the public to maintain prevention measures during this time, since, if there were a significant increase in cases due to the celebrations, the maximum hospital capacity would reach its maximum in the second half of January.
Thus, in the framework of the Shared Management Model: Costa Rica works, the CNE provides supervision and accompaniment to 10 cantons that present a greater vulnerability due to their population density, the number of active cases, as well as the contagion rate that are being presented.
Mr. Alexander Solís Delgado, president of the CNE, indicated in a press conference that efforts have been redoubled together with the Municipal Emergency Committees (CME) so that they remain in the first line of work in the cantons, and reinforce the operations inter-institutional control agencies so that communities enjoy a safe Christmas and New Year without an increase in cases of COVID-19.
Solís was also emphatic when indicating that there is currently a decrease in hospital capacity, for which we must appeal to self-care and individual responsibility since the virus is present, contagious and the risk is not for each one, but for our environment.
“We cannot prevent families from reuniting, but if we ask them, as a preventive measure, to practice intra-family protocols through hand washing, use of masks, alcohol gel, distancing, and preferably hold the meeting in ventilated places” , indicated the hierarch.
These 10 cantons represent a 42% incidence of the entire generation of new cases. Reason why government authorities have expressed their concern about the increase in cases and variations in the behavior of the risk of transmission by COVID-19 that have occurred mainly in cantons outside the GAM.
Field work to support cantons
The CNE, together with the CMEs, will continue to work and strengthen the field work to be carried out in the different cantons of the country, mainly in the 10 cantons with the greatest vulnerability to contagion by COVID-19.
As part of the actions, the risk management team will be sent to the priority cantons to strengthen the model. The areas of the Central Pacific, the Chorotega Region, and the Huetar Caribe Region will be covered, as well as other cantons that have an increase in the number of cases. Likewise, there will be a presence in cantons where a high concentration of people is projected as a result of the Christmas, end and beginning of the year parties.
On the other hand, five teams will be displaced as a task force in the verification of communal protocols such as the use of masks, compliance with social bubbles, respect for distancing, hand washing or disinfection and the measures used to avoid crowds.
