Nicaragua: 16 Death

 At least 16 people died due to a landslide in an area of northern Nicaragua affected by severe rains and landslides caused by the devastating passage of Hurricane Iota, witnesses of the event reported Wednesday.

Iota struck the northern Caribbean of Nicaragua as a Category 4 hurricane causing the destruction of homes, landslides and river overflows. The government had reported the death of six people on Tuesday, including two children.

Honduras: 15 Deaths

Later, the hurricane, now turned into a tropical storm, headed for Honduras, where it again mercilessly struck areas that only two weeks ago suffered the devastating passage of storm Eta, such as the extensive Cauca valley.

There are at least 15 dead, 14 of them deceased in several landslides caused by torrential rains in the west of the country. Tens of thousands of people are in shelters, after the phenomenon destroyed their homes. Those affected number in the hundreds of thousands.

The destructive combo of storms Iota and Eta has caused enormous damage to homes, infrastructure and crops, which are feared to plague the future of the region for years.

Other Deaths.

Iota has also left two dead in Guatemala, another two in the Colombian archipelago of San Andrés and Providencia, as well as one deceased in Panama and another in El Salvador.
