In order to support Costa Rica in the protection of girls, boys, adolescents and adults of the indigenous territories of Talamanca, the United Nations (UN) on Tuesday delivered at least 20 thousand supplies for the care of these populations .

The delivery includes new clothes, rubber boots, telecommunications equipment, educational materials for girls and boys, even basic necessities such as masks, alcohol gel, baby diapers and hygiene kits.

This support to Costa Rica has been coordinated from the UN by its specialized agencies: the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the World Health Organization (WHO / PAHO).

During the award ceremony, the Vice Minister of the Presidency for Political Affairs and Citizen Dialogue, Randall Otárola, highlighted the joint effort between institutions and indigenous peoples since the beginning of the pandemic. “As a government we have proposed to ensure quality care for indigenous people in the framework of COVID-19. Thanks to the work plan that we have jointly developed, we have been able to give individualized attention and the inputs received today will improve the conditions of the communities in Talamanca ”, he said.
