The electric buses will operate on public transport routes with the aim of testing the technology in real conditions and comparing diesel and electric buses.
The pilot expects to start in November and the electric buses will operate for a year. They will start on the public transport bus routes between San José-Desamparados and San Rafael and, later on the routes between San José and between San José and Alajuela by INVU.
These companies were selected after meeting the technical parameters, among which the following stand out: providing the service on an urban route in the Metropolitan Area, having a fleet of more than 10 units, having a three-phase connection for chargers and operating on a route with slopes less than 15%.
“With these units, the user will be the great favored since they are equipped with technology, so they will be able to have Internet access, charge the cell phone while traveling, and will undoubtedly feel greater satisfaction and comfort when traveling on buses that do not noise and do not pollute the air ”, indicated the Executive Director of the Public Transport Council, Manuel Vega.
Competition to paint buses. The pilot plan is an inter-institutional effort, promoted by the Office of the First Lady, MINAE, MOPT, CTP, ICE, ARESEP, INA and organizations such as German Cooperation – GIZ, CRUSA Foundation and UN Environment.
