Starting in September, tourists from countries with which Costa Rica maintains open borders will be able to enter the national territory on yachts or sailboats.

Through Executive Decree No. 42585-MGP-S, published this Saturday, the Government of the Republic establishes that people who enter the country by sea from the list of allowed countries and have not made a stopover elsewhere, may enter the country .

As for passengers who do not bring the negative PCR test (which, now, must be taken 72 hours prior to the trip to Costa Rica) or who set sail in an unauthorized city or country, they will receive a health quarantine order, to which The days they spent at sea will be deducted from the last set sail that is recorded in the yacht’s log.

Among the requirements that tourists coming from yachts or sailboats must meet, it was also established that they must have medical insurance that offers coverage in case of contracting the SARS-coV-2 virus. In addition, they must deliver the document “International Shipment of Ships” and complete the Health Pass, issued by the Ministry of Health.

For the entry of tourists by sea, the yachts or sailboats must dock in the authorized marinas. These provisions could represent the entry of a hundred private yachts in the remainder of the year in the different marinas: Golfito, Los Sueños, Pez Vela, Banana Bay and Papagayo.

Costa Rica maintains open air borders with countries of the European Union (Schengen zone) United Kingdom, Japan; South Korea; Thailand; Singapore and the People’s Republic of China: Oceania (Australia and New Zealand), North America (Canada and 12 US states), and Uruguay in South America. The review of the list is periodic, in order to evaluate the management and behavior of COVID-19 in other countries.
