After 12 years exhibiting in international galleries and museums, Federico Herrero returns to the Costa Rican scene with a set of new works: “Barreras Blandas”, an installation where the artist explores painting in relation to the natural landscape and urban structures in particular.

The exhibition is open from August 4 in the South Temporary Exhibition Hall of the National Museum of Costa Rica (MNCR).

According to the provisions of the Ministry of Health, the MNCR will reopen, following all sanitary protocols, from August 4 to 9 and from August 22 to 30, from Tuesday to Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, from 9 a.m. at 4:30 p.m. Entry is free, temporarily.

In “Soft Barriers”, Herrero presents an installation that incorporates painting, sculpture and monotype on paper. “Through an installation, it is intended to offer an immersive experience; where visitors are invited to ‘browse’ the pieces, with which they seek to create a sensory experience, ”explained the curator of the exhibition, Paz Monge.

The name “Soft Barriers” represents the different types of limitations in the artistic and conceptual scope of the exhibition and how the artist plays or breaks these barriers to search for new meanings; “For example, Federico’s artistic practice tries to reconcile this media transition between painting, sculpture and architecture and how color and form are related or ‘jump’ between them,” Monge explained.

“Soft Barriers” will be available until December, during the regular hours of the MNCR. Hours may vary according to the disposition of the health authorities of the Government of the Republic, in response to the COVID pandemic19.

On the other hand, the Finca 6 museum-site, located in Palmar Sur, Osa, Puntarenas, being in a yellow zone, according to the country’s sanitary measures, opens from 8 a.m. at 2 p.m., Monday through Sunday. Admission is free.
