The authorities of the ministries of Public Education and Health announced the postponement of the return to classroom attendance in schools until September, due to the situation due to the emergency caused by COVID-19 and the impediment to advance in the opening phases proposed by the Government of the Republic.
The face-to-face return is being considered for September, provided that epidemiological conditions allow it. Starting with the gradual and controlled return to educational centers, the MEP will respect the will of parents, representatives and, in general, of families to send or not to face-to-face classes for their sons and daughters.
It is important to mention that in cases where the family does not authorize the minor to attend classes, the MEP will facilitate the pedagogical follow-up necessary by other means, so that they continue to be linked to the process and the educational system.
“As long as the national emergency health condition persists, the MEP will consider the opinion of the family regarding whether or not to send their sons and daughters to classes; And if for reasons of safety for the health and life of minors, they decide not to send them to classes, they can choose not to do so, but as long as they guarantee that they will provide the means to continue the remote pedagogical monitoring provided by the teaching staff. of the MEP ”, said Minister Cruz, who assured that the educational service will continue to be provided to all students, at a distance or in a mixed way (face-to-face and distance)
In defense of the right to education, postponing the return forces the strengthening of distance education, whose results so far and as indicated by statistical data from the MEP, have been notorious, although not sufficient, because it is required not to leave any student behind .
Thanks to the technological tool called the General Information System of Educational Centers, today the name and ID number of all the 1,067,091 students enrolled are known, and it has been possible to create the same number of emails and the means by which They have been contacted by their teachers.
Today we have the tools to affirm that as of July 7 we have 595,771 active users on the Microsoft Teams platform, and working email accounts for 69,007 teachers, 500,987 students.
“We recognize that the gap exists, but today we have concrete information that allows us to identify the student people who are receiving the educational service, and in what way; as well as we know how many and which teachers are carrying out the I learn at home strategy ”, said Guiselle Cruz, Minister of Education.
Cruz added that these efforts are joined by the use of technological platforms, as well as radio and television programs that have been accompanying the learning process.
The National Chamber of Radio and SINART continue to give their contribution, offering daily spaces for the educational programs that we have been producing with the support of the European Union, and that we will transmit on various stations of the National Radio Chamber as well as on the Costa frequency Rica Radio from SINART.
Efforts continue to be made on television through SINART and soon on private television.

We have a model of evaluation and promotion, approved by the Higher Council of Education, so that it is possible to know the levels of progress of student people, so as not to slow down their personal development goals. This new assessment model will be used throughout the school year, even returning to classroom attendance.
