Dr. Román Macaya Hayes, executive president of the CCSS, explained that for this purpose, various teams from the institution have set out to prepare a road map that allows the provision of services to be adapted to the reality experienced by COVID-19 through the articulation of different strategies and the use of technologies.

“The country is still experiencing very difficult times due to the pandemic and we cannot let our guard down, but the CCSS is a comprehensive institution that has a clear mission to provide care to those who need it and that is why we are designing this plan that will allow us to resume what it was stopped when the emergency began without neglecting attention due to COVID-19 and which today presents us with a less complicated picture than other countries, “said the hierarch.

The President recalled that the pandemic has direct effects on the Institution, which, as a provider of the country’s health services, has had to organize, strengthen and expand services, as well as dedicate significant additional resources, for adequate and timely attention to the Costa Rican population.

Dr. Macaya explained that the roadmap consists of five objectives, each with specific lines of action, that will mark the way for the reorganization of services in the face of the pandemic and a careful and gradual recovery of the services suspended after the start of this situation. .

The hierarchy was emphatic that the plan is under final review and that it considers the aspects for its implementation in each of the CCSS care networks, considering the dynamism and heterogeneity required according to the epidemiological evolution of the disease and associated risk management.

For his part, Dr. Mario Felipe Ruiz Cubillo, medical manager of the CCSS, said that the restoration of services will be gradual in accordance with the recommendations of the experts and maintaining the application of the National Guideline for Disease Surveillance COVID-19 which it is mandatory.

According to the manager, the five objectives of the plan are:

1.Direct the adaptability of health services in the COVID-19 context.
2.Retrieve the provision of health services suspended as a result of the COVID-19 response measures.
3.Continue to strengthen the virtual and face-to-face services necessary in the Financial and Pension structures, in the context of COVID-19.
4. Establish the information campaign that will support the recovery of services.
5.Permanently monitor the financial situation and evolution of the pandemic for decision-making.
