The Costa Rican micro, small and medium-sized companies in the agricultural, food, industrial and services sectors that are being affected by the global crisis following the Covid-19 will have an opportunity to continue developing their operations.

This is the Alivio program, an inter-institutional effort of the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER), the Development Banking System (SBD) and the National Learning Institute (INA), which seeks to mitigate the negative impacts of pandemic in our economy.

The Alivio program is a platform that will provide 200 companies with a series of tools that will be chosen by the three institutions that make up the initiative, which will give $ 5.6 million and their experience according to the nature of each:

  • PROCOMER will provide US $ 4 million in non-reimbursable funds for companies, as well as support in trade promotion so that the beneficiary SMEs achieve contacts with international buyers and linkages, through its Trade Promotion Offices (OPCs) abroad and offices in Costa Rica. In addition, it will function as the operating agency of the Program.
  • The INA will support the hiring of a group of business and financial advisors who will accompany the 200 companies chosen for 12 months, guiding them in their business models and opportunities for productive reconversion.
  • SBD will provide the program with US $ 1.6 million in non-reimbursable funds for production inputs for the benefited companies.
