MEP prepare second round of food distribution.

Starting Monday, April 20, the student canteen services of the Ministry of Public Education (MEP) will carry out a second delivery of food to safeguard the right to food of students, in the face of the closure of educational centers due to the pandemic at the level COVID-19 and the recommendation of the authorities of the Ministry of Health.

The provision had been made on March 20 of this year, by the Minister of Public Education, Guiselle Cruz Maduro, considering food as a human right and seeking solutions to one of the services that the MEP offers to more than 850,000 students. and that it has become the most comprehensive social program in the national territory, being present in more than 4,575 educational centers.

“We thank the entire educational community that makes history at this fragile moment for our students and we remind families to follow the protocols of distancing and order in the withdrawal of food,” said the Minister of Education, Guiselle Cruz, authorizing a new round of packages.

The new installment, for which the General Protocol for the distribution of food in public schools has been expanded due to the suspension of lessons, following the national emergency by COVID-19, will include perishable and non-perishable products such as rice, tuna, pasta, liquid or powdered milk, potatoes, carrots, chayote, onion, sweet chili and fruit. No salt or oil will be delivered because these groceries that have higher yields were included in the first delivery and in exchange there will be a little more fruit and vegetables.

The extension of the protocol issued by the Directorate of Equity Programs of the MEP, for the second installment, proposes a table of product substitution, in the event that there is no availability of the main products indicated in the protocol.

The managers of each dining room must verify the shelf life of the products and that this is greater than one month.

Another novelty is that educational centers with vegetable garden projects will be able to harvest the products and distribute them for their use among the educational community.

The protocol indicates that schools that have packages from the previous delivery must use them this time, as well as products that they have in a pantry. Similarly, packages that are not delivered at this time must be inventoried and protected.

In the event that the supplier is the National Production Council (CNP), orders must be made between April 3 and 8, on the purchasing platform. Those who carry out the procedure with private providers will have from April 3 to 12 to make the request.

The idea is that the products arrive between April 20-24, to make their delivery.

As a caveat, if there are delays in the request of the orders to the CNP (after April 8) by the educational centers, the delivery time will be extended until April 28.

The educational centers will have the power to report unexpected situations to the Directorate of Equity Programs through the emails established in the protocol.

Also in cases where there is a student transport service, the educational centers will coordinate the transfer, only of the beneficiaries for the delivery of the products.

At the end of the delivery process, educational centers must report the entire delivery to the email [email protected] and indicate the code of the institution.
