The Government of Costa Rica today expressed its gratitude to the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), for the important and timely donation of tests for the early detection of COVID-19.
The Foreign Minister, Rodolfo Solano Quirós, thanked in particular the Executive President of CABEI, Dr. Dante Mossi Reyes, for donating a total of 182,000 tests to the countries of the System for Central American Integration (SICA), of which, our country will receive 26,000.
The donation is part of the Emergency Support and Preparedness Program for COVID-19 and its economic reactivation, specifically component 2, which consists of providing assistance for the regional purchase and supply of medicines and medical equipment for early detection of COVID-19. CABEI reported.
The initiative takes place within the framework of SICA, based on the agreements made through the videoconference held by the Presidents and Heads of Government on March 12, and the approval, by the Foreign Ministers, of the Contingency Plan Regional, the previous March 26.
Foreign Minister Solano Quirós also expressed his gratitude to the President of the Republic of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández Alvarado, and to the Honduran Foreign Minister, Lisandro Rosales Banegas, for the fundamental logistical and operational support for the transfer of the donation to Costa Rican soil. “The support provided by Honduras is yet another expression of brotherhood and solidarity among the Central American peoples,” he added.
The evidence received was acquired from the Republic of Korea, and will be used to follow up on the surveillance and health protection policy developed by the national authorities.
The logistics of transportation and reception have been developed jointly under Operation “Airlift for the health and life of Central America and the Dominican Republic.”
