In the face of the health emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the San Juan de Dios Hospital will start, as of Monday, March 30, a screening of all those who visit the hospital, this to detect possible COVID-19 cases, and address them before they enter the hospital.
Dr. Ileana Balmaceda Arias, general director of San Juan de Dios, explained that at the hospital doors a doctor and a nursing assistant, with the corresponding personal protection team according to current national guidelines, will conduct a brief interview with users, companions, suppliers and contractors; In the event that the patient is considered a suspect, due to medical criteria, and based on current guidelines, he will be sent to the Emergency Service to complete the approach and surveillance protocol by COVID-19. He also indicated that this measure is being carried out to protect officials and patients.
If you do not meet the definition of a suspected case, but do have any respiratory symptoms, you will be put on a surgical mask and allowed to enter.
If you do not present respiratory symptoms, but you are close contact of a case confirmed by COVID-19, you will be instructed to maintain home isolation, if you are a patient you will be given instructions to reschedule the appointment and the procedure for continuity of your treatment.
If you do not present any of the conditions of the interrogation, you can enter.
What questions will be asked in the consultations to determine yourself as a potential Covid patient19?
- Have you had a fever in the last 14 days?
- Have you had a sore throat or a stuffy nose in the past 14 days?
- Have you had a cough in the last 14 days?
- Have you had respiratory distress in the last 14 days?
- Have you traveled to any country in the last 14 days?
- Have you been in contact in the last 14 days with anyone diagnosed or positive for COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS)?
This pre-triage will take place at the main gate (located on Paseo Colón), parking A and south entrance (morgue), in addition the entrance known as “Puerta de Médicos” (located opposite the west side of La Merced park) will be exclusive use for officials. This review will be held Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. at 4:00 p.m., which is when there is a higher income from people outside the hospital.
In the case of the visit to hospitalized patients, which is 4:30 p.m. at 5:30 pm, this will be due to the completion of the numbering of the bed, in such a way that the patients hospitalized in beds that end in an even number can only be visited on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, and what are in odd numbers On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, there will be no visit on Sunday, and only one person is allowed to enter.
Since this emergency began, San Juan de Dios has been carrying out different boarding strategies such as the Triage-COVID-19 in Emergencies, the suspension of surgeries and elective procedures, telephone medical consultations, the delivery of medications via Correos de Costa Rica, the restriction of sight to hospitalized patients, among others, and could generate new provisions in the coming days.
