To mitigate layoffs in the face of the COVID-19 coronavirus situation, the Government of the Republic will support critical sectors of employment by alleviating social burdens, reported the President of the Republic, Carlos Alvarado and the Minister of Finance, Rodrigo Chaves, in the framework of the Announcement of the PROTECT Plan.
“The objective is to mitigate layoffs in the sectors that are suffering the consequences of this global pandemic,” said the president, explaining that the government will support workers through a plan of economic support to the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) ) so that it can alleviate social charges temporarily.
The president explained that the maximum amount of the plan is ₡ 33 billion and it will be executed based on the analysis of the priorities of the affected sectors that it wants to protect. “Our purpose is to protect the economic stability and well-being of Costa Ricans,” said the President of the Republic.
The PROTEGER Plan was presented by President Alvarado this Thursday and aims to accumulate liquidity to react responsibly to needs and according to the evolution of the emergency.
