  • Disinfection of cells, handcuffs, cleaning of surfaces and objects such as desks, communication devices, computers and frequent hand washing among the provisions applied.
  • Police bodies must request civilians on suspicion of infectious disease, civil origin, date of departure from their country of origin, symptom consultation, among other actions.

Authorities of the Ministry of Public Security (MSP) reported on the strengthening of sanitary measures against the coronavirus COVID-19 in order to protect the official bodies and interlocutors, who constantly patrol the streets of our country.

The head of the entity’s Occupational Health Department, the doctor Gabriel Carmona Rojas, indicated that, “we reviewed the Guideline for Infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Public Security, linking it with the coronavirus. What we are proving more than anything else at the delegation level are the police actions against civilians, ”explained Carmona.

He added that as part of the internal measures officers have been recommended to disinfect cells, rods, police handcuffs, as well as the constant cleaning of different surfaces either with common disinfectants or with chlorine dilutions. Likewise, the administrators were instructed to disinfect desks, communication devices such as radios, computers, pens, among other objects.

“It is also being authorized so that it can use the different spaces of the modules where the police forces can take their food instead of having to go to areas of high influx such as dining rooms,” said the head of the Occupational Health Department. Public Security.

Under these guidelines, recommendations are given to police delegations on possible approaches to people suspected of infectious contagious disease, such as being at least one meter away, not speaking face to face with the interlocutor.

In general terms, the biosecurity guidelines for the handling of civilians by the police are:

1) In civil cases on suspicion of carrying an infectious contagious disease, keep a distance of at least one meter.

2) Ask where the civilian comes from.

3) In case of being a foreigner, ask the date of departure from your country of origin (alert in case of departure from your country between 14 to 25 days).

4) Ask if you have been in recent contact with any person known to be a carrier of any infectious or contagious disease.

5) Ask if you have recently suffered or present symptoms such as: fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, headache, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, muscle aches, bleeding or bruising for no apparent reason.

6) If the civilian presents symptoms such as cough or sneeze, the officer will urge you to use a mask to cover your nose and mouth and will emphasize the proper use of the cough and sneeze technique.

7) In the event that the person’s immigration status is irregular, the Police will immediately contact the Professional Migration Police and the Red Cross for their initial medical evaluation.

8) Coordinate with the Red Cross for the transfer of civilians to the Medical Center.

9) After each action, officers must wash their hands with soap and water. You should not touch your face with your hands until you have washed them with plenty of soap and water.

10) In case it has been necessary to use the police handcuffs or rods, they must be disinfected immediately with the disinfectant solution.
