Paradise Products Costa Rica has decided to use our blog as a means of communication for those seeking quality information in English, Spanish and French on the current situation regarding the Covid-19 Coronavirus. Recently categorized as a pandemic by WHO. The following entry is NOT an official statement. However, it replicates the opinions and recommendations of national and international health organizations.

How serious is the status of Covid-19 in Costa Rica?

At the time of writing this article, March 12, 2020. There are 22 patients confirmed as positive. 3 Foreigners, the rest national. All national patients have been identified as direct contacts (family and close friends) of a super disseminator.) All cases are properly isolated and only one (the super disseminator) is in a delicate condition. It should be noted that he suffers from several of the risk factors that worsen the disease.

Are more infected expected?

It is very difficult to predict, 179 potential cases were estimated, most of which have been ruled out. Although all current patients are isolated, it is not impossible for other cases to occur. Under the Pandemic declaration given by the WHO, new cases are expected.

What health measures has the government of Costa Rica taken?

The measures so far have been more reactive than preventive. Massive activities and gatherings of more than 3,000 people have been canceled. Concerts, sporting events and the National Theater and the Melico Salazar Theater have canceled their schedule and performances for the month of March.

According to the development of the disease, it is very likely that there will be more cancellations of events with influxes of less than 3,000 people, and whether to cancel or stop the school and college courses is under discussion.

At the moment religious activities, cinemas, and restaurants have not been closed or forced to take isolation measures, minimum attention or special hours. Any significant changes will be reported at paradiseproductscr.com

Can the Costa Rican Health system cope with the situation and emergencies caused by Covid-19?

Yes, at the moment the health system has no problem in attending to current cases. All but one infected patient is isolated at home under strict supervision of the health authorities. Costa Rica has one of the strongest health systems in the entire region.

That said, the important thing will always be to be able to control the outbreak and prevent cases from becoming an internal epidemic. If they do, the health services could be overwhelmed, as has happened in Italy and Iran. It remains only to wait to see the outcome of the current cases of Covid-19.

Are there flight restrictions by country of origin?

At the moment, only those passengers originating from Italy, Iran and China and all passengers are asked to present symptoms of a cold or some indisposition to report it immediately to the airport authorities.

I want to travel to Costa Rica, can I do it?

On current statistics the answer is YES.

However, the virus experiences exponential growth. Paradise Products Costa Rica and Costa Rican government authorities ask all foreigners who believe they have been exposed to Covid-19 or who have symptoms, even if they are mild, to refrain from traveling to Costa Rica.

If you have no symptoms and have not had direct contact with any other Covid-19 patient or victim, we recommend that you follow the following recommendations to decide if you should travel or not.

Also if you have one or more of the risk factors such as:

Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Obesity, cardiovascular, or respiratory problems or is part of the group over 65 years of age, it is recommended that you abstain from traveling and avoid massive concentrations of people.
