Jazz and satire will mark the beginning of the 2020 Season of the Heredia Symphony Orchestra (OSH), which will take place next Saturday, February 22 at 8 p.m. in the National Theater.
For this concert, the OSH will perform Symphony No. 9 and Jazz Suite No. 1 by composer Dmitri Shostakovich (Russia); in addition to the work Jazz Suite by Bohuslav Martin ů (Czech Republic). The three works are classics of the symphonic repertoire of the 20th century.
“The ninth Shostakovich Symphony is one of those pieces that bring with it a particular history, a historical review that chronically tells us one of the bloodiest passages of the last century. Testimony of his time, ”said OSH head director Eddie Mora.
“We started with two works influenced by Jazz, one by Shostakovich himself, in a beautiful example of his natural contact with popular music, and another by Martin ů, in a stylized compositional exercise,” he added.
Also, on Friday, February 21, the OSH will perform at the Immaculate Conception Parish in Heredia at 8 p.m.
“The objective of this concert is not only to start our OSH2020 Season but also to offer our public its main characteristics. Incorporate emblematic works of the symphonic repertoire of the 20th century, strengthen the artistic and professional level of the OSH to prepare us for what will be an unprecedented proposal of Costa Rican music for the 2021 season and the celebration of the 60 years of the OSH in 2022 ” , teacher Mora said.
The Heredia Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1962 and since its formation it has been dedicated to the execution of Costa Rican music. In addition, its 11 record productions incorporate the Latin American and contemporary classical repertoire.
Currently, OSH has the support of the Ministry of Culture and Youth and the Municipality of Heredia, entities that incorporate it into its budget, thus allowing the development of artistic projects with composers, soloists and directors of recognized international experience. The musical direction of the teacher Eddie Mora during the OSH2020 Season is given thanks to the support of Franz Liszt Schule.
