Coronavirus, formally called COVID-19, is a virus first identified during the investigation of an outbreak in Wuhan, China. The Chinese authorities consider that the source of this respiratory disease is the large Chinese horseshoe bat (rhinolophus ferrumequinum); In the mid-2010s, it was considered the origin “of the transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome, better known as SARS, which infected more than 8,000 people, 800 of whom died.” (BBC News World, 2020).
Although the exact origin of the virus remains unverified, it is a fact that there are more than 60,000 people affected by the coronavirus.
Evolution of cases of Coronavirus infection
The Ministry of Health of Spain, however, states in its Technical Report on Covid-19 (2020) that:
To date, the proportion of deaths among confirmed cases has varied between 3% -2% and has declined during the course of the outbreak. However, since deaths occur several days after notification and new cases are updated every day, these calculations should be interpreted cautiously.
The particular case of Costa Rica
For this same reason, there is some concern in travel lovers. Many decide to stop their adventures to avoid the risk of infection; decision that avoids putting at risk those countries that still do not have cases of infections.
Unfortunately, the tropics have been attacked by alarming outbreaks of pneumonia by Covid-19. Among the tropical destinations you can find: Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, among others. Even some European countries have also been affected as in the case of Germany, France and Spain.
However, there are other alternatives to which, lovers of travel and cultures, can turn to. Among them is Colombia, the African tropics or Costa Rica. Depending on the tastes, people can enjoy getting to know new cultures and foods.
The safety of traveling to countries such as Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama, among others, is because in these places security measures have been implemented for the early detection of the virus. For example, according to BBC News Mundo, countries such as Mexico, Chile and Colombia have strengthened the surveillance of the arrival and departure of tourists. Even in Chile:
Through the Minister of Health of the country, Jaime Mañalich, it was reported last January that a strengthening of the Epidemiological Surveillance Network would be done, to urgently detect any respiratory condition or illness in hospitals. (BBC News World, 2020)
Although the fact that there is a case in Latin America cannot be ruled out, countries have already worked to prevent the transmission of the virus.
On the other hand, Covid-19 is characterized as a virus that takes strength in winter, which favors the tropical climates of Latin American countries …
Score for Costa Rica!
Its proximity to Ecuador makes it a country that does not have very marked seasons of the year. Therefore, it is a place that presents temperatures, generally, high throughout the year “The annual average of the whole country is between 22 ° C (71 ° F) and 27 ° C (81 ° F).” (Costa Rica guides, 2020). But it does present, normally, two well-defined periods: Dry Season (from December to May) and Rainy Season (from May to November); except for some alterations by microclimates according to each region.
Our country has not presented, at the moment, recent or probable cases of the coronavirus. In addition, the Ministry of Public Health proposed a series of guidelines to deal with people with respiratory disease. For our tourists and for nationals, it is comforting to know that our health system is widely efficient and effective to attend any emergency of any kind.
For this reason, it would be a pleasure for us to continue receiving the visit of Costa Rican culture, flora and fauna lovers.

SegAccording to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the United States (2020), these basic measures must be followed to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses:
• Avoid close contact with sick people. • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
The most advisable thing is not to be in contact with places and / or people affected by the virus. If your desire is to continue discovering new places in the world, it is better to protect yourself, take care of yourself and take care of those around you.
