19 Officials from the La Cruz Health Center tested positive for Covid19 and were replaced.

A total of 19 officials from the La Cruz health area of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) were diagnosed and quarantined after knowing the positive result for covid-19.

Last Wednesday, August 19, three positive officials were identified, for which the medical direction and the local Epidemiological Surveillance team made the decision to sample 100 percent of the officials from the health area, informed Dr. Warner Picado Camareno, director of the Integrated Network of Health Services of the Chorotega Region (DRIPSSCH).

“Considering that this is a small health area, the 125 officials were proactively instructed to take a covid-19 respiratory sample, in addition to this being a sentinel site,” said the regional director.
Between this Thursday and Sunday the results were received, a total of 19 officials are positive and six results are pending.

Among the positive personnel are: 1 medical director, 3 general practitioners, 2 microbiologists, 1 physician in charge of epidemiological surveillance, 2 laboratory technicians, 1 pharmacy technician, 1 pharmacy messenger, 4 nursing assistants, 1 chief professional nurse, 1 miscellaneous, 1 secretary and 1 primary care technical assistant (ATAP). All officials were isolated with a sanitary order and were replaced to guarantee the continuity of services and not affect users, said Picado.


Dr. Warner Picado explained that, among the actions, in addition to the identification of positive cases and their contacts, the entire physical facility of the health area headquarters was also disinfected.

“We have coordinated everything with the Ministry of Health and only the service has been suspended in the moments of cleaning and disinfection tasks, this Monday the health center works normally,” said the regional director.

Similarly, coordination with the central level was established through Dr. Guiselle Guzmán, head of the Collective Health Area in order to have technical support of the actions that have been implemented and others that need to be taken.

“A regional team was sent, made up of the doctor in charge of the COVID-19 Regional Epidemiology Coordinator, the Regional Nursing Supervisor, the Regional Occupational Health Supervisor and the Regional Advisor ai of the Service Network”, who are reviewing the the strategy to control the outbreak, the reinforcement of the use of personal protective equipment and the recommendations for other actions that are considered necessary, ”explained Dr. Warner Picado.

The director emphasized that the objective of maintaining the continuity of the La Cruz health area service has been fulfilled in order that the population is not affected and care is provided safely.
